Worship
Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done. It's showing love, honor, reverence, and devotion to God. In worship, we recognize that God is worthy of our praise.
What Does the Bible Say About Worship?
Worship Is a Heart Response
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23–24 (NIV)
Jesus tells us worship is not just about outward actions, it’s about the heart and being genuine.
Worship Can Be Expressed in Many Ways
Here are some biblical ways people worship:
Singing and music: Psalm 95:1, Colossians 3:16
Prayer: Psalm 141:2
Giving: Proverbs 3:9
Serving others: Romans 12:1
Obedience: John 14:15
Thanksgiving: Psalm 100:4
Lifestyle: Romans 12:1
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." Romans 12:1 (NIV)
So worship isn’t just music, it’s how we live our lives for God every day.
Worship in the Old Testament
People offered sacrifices, bowed in reverence, and followed God’s commands.
Worship happened in places like the Tabernacle or Temple, often led by priests.
Worship in the New Testament
Jesus shifted worship from a location (like the temple) to a relationship with God.
Early believers worshiped together in homes, shared communion, and prayed.
Worship became more Spirit-led and personal, not based on ritual alone.
Why Do We Worship?
Because God is worthy (Revelation 4:11)
Because we were created to glorify Him (Isaiah 43:7)
Because it draws us closer to Him
Because it changes our perspective and builds faith
