What Is Baptism?
What is Baptism?
Baptism is a public way to show that you have decided to follow Jesus.
During baptism, a pastor or trusted believer stands with you in the water:
You go under the water
Then you come back up
It’s simple, but very meaningful.
Why Go Under the Water?
Baptism is a symbol.
Going under the water shows that your old life and sins are washed away through Jesus’ death
Coming out of the water shows new life, just like Jesus rose from the dead
Baptism is a picture of new life with Jesus.
Jesus Was Baptized Too
Jesus Himself was baptized.
When He came up out of the water:
The Holy Spirit came down on Him
God the Father spoke and said He was pleased
This moment shows us the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together.
Why Baptism Matters
Before Jesus returned to heaven, He told His followers to:
Go and help others follow Him
Baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Baptism doesn’t save you; only Jesus does. But baptism is an important next step after saying yes to Jesus.
It’s a public declaration, a way of saying: “I have decided to follow Jesus.”
Take a Moment to Reflect
Have you been baptized?
If not, would you like to take this next step?
What questions do you still have about baptism?
God is patient, loving, and happy to guide you as you grow.
