New Believer's Guide
A Simple Introduction to Your New Life with Jesus. Welcome!
If you’ve recently said yes to Jesus, we’re so glad you’re here. This guide is designed to help you understand what just happened, what matters most, and what your next steps are.
What Just Happened?
Becoming a Christian means beginning a personal relationship with Jesus and trusting what Jesus did for you on the cross. When you place your faith in Jesus, God forgives your sins and gives you new life. As you follow Him, God begins shaping you to become more like Jesus (Romans 8:29).
You can have confidence in your salvation. The Bible says: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Who Is God?
God is loving, powerful, and personal. The Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8), and He created everything, including you. God doesn’t want distance from us. He wants a relationship. That’s why He sent Jesus to show us who God is and bring us back to Him.
Who Is Jesus?
Jesus is God’s Son and the Savior of the world. He came to show us God’s love, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. Through Jesus, we are forgiven and brought into a right relationship with God. Jesus is alive and invites us to follow Him.
Who Is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us today. When you follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives in you to guide, comfort, teach, and strengthen you. He helps you grow and understand God’s Word.
Is There an Enemy?
The Bible teaches that there is a real enemy who tries to deceive and discourage people. But as a believer, you do not need to be afraid. God’s Word says: “The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). God’s power is always greater.
The Bible: Where to Begin
The Bible helps you get to know God and learn how to follow Jesus.
A good place to start:
The Gospel of John
Proverbs (for wisdom)
The New Testament
Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything right away. Learning takes time, and that’s okay.
There are many Bible translations. Choose one that is clear and easy for you to understand. Helpful translations for beginners:
NIV - New International Version
NLT - New Living Translation
NKJV - New King James Version
Baptism: What Is It?
Baptism is an important next step after deciding to follow Jesus. It is a public way to show that you belong to Him.
Baptism represents leaving your old life behind and beginning a new life with Christ (Matthew 28:19).
Discovering God’s Plan for Your Life
God has a purpose for your life. Following Him is a journey, and He reveals His plans step by step. You don’t need all the answers right now. As you grow, God will guide you and shape you along the way.
Is What I’m Feeling Normal?
Some people feel joy right away. Others feel calm, unsure, emotional, or even the same as before. All of that is normal. Faith is based on God’s promises. Growth takes time. Trust that God is working in you, even when you don’t feel it yet.
What If I Mess Up or Still Struggle?
Following Jesus doesn’t mean you’ll be perfect. You will still make mistakes, struggle, and grow. When you mess up, God doesn’t turn away from you. He invites you to come back to Him, receive forgiveness, and keep walking forward. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1). God’s grace is bigger than your failures.
A Simple Way to Grow Each Week
You don’t need to do everything at once. Start small and stay consistent.
Read a short Bible passage
Talk to God honestly in prayer
Reflect on what you read
Connect with other believers
Even a few minutes a day makes a difference.
You Were Never Meant to Walk Alone
God often helps us grow through other people. Being part of a church, small group, or having a trusted Christian friend can help you stay grounded and supported as you grow. You don’t have to have everything figured out to belong.
God’s Promises for You
“To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:38–39)
These promises are true for you.
