Why Forgiveness Matters
Why Forgiveness Matters
God loves to forgive. Throughout the Bible, He offers forgiveness and second chances to everyone. As followers of Jesus, we’ve experienced God’s forgiveness, not because we earned it, but because He loves us.
Jesus’ Example
Jesus forgave many people during His ministry. Even while dying on the cross, He prayed:
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” – Luke 23:34 NIV
Jesus didn't judge; he showed us that forgiveness is about seeing the God-given potential in others.
How We Forgive
Followers of Jesus are called to forgive others. Peter asked Jesus how often we should forgive someone who keeps messing up. Jesus said:
“Not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” – Matthew 18:21-22 NIV
This means we forgive freely, without keeping score.
What Forgiveness Looks Like
It means letting go of anger, revenge, or the need to “get even.”
Sometimes forgiveness includes setting healthy boundaries, loving from a distance, or protecting yourself.
Remember: we are forgiven people, so we forgive others. It can be hard, but choosing forgiveness reflects God’s love and helps us become more like Jesus.
